80% of UK homes to have broadband by 2010
Posted 16th March 2007 at 12:38pm by Alex Buttle
New research has indicated that by 2010 four out of five homes will have broadband, especially as the increase of IPTV is expected. The research undertaken by the Centre for Telecoms Research Ltd, believes that increased knowledge of services (and demand for IPTV) means that more people will be switching to faster services.
They believe that with new games consoles being released such as the Playstaion 3, Xbox 360 and the Wii, which all offer online capabilities, will help increase broadband demand. Especially as these consoles now see online content as a major feature of their consoles capabilities. Microsoft have already announced that later this year they will provide its Xbox 360 video marketplace while they also have plans to release an IPTV service later this year.
Sony have responded to Microsoft by announcing PS3 Home, as it looks set to follow Microsoft by supplying TV, music and film to be purchased through the console.
