If Toucan do it, anyone can do it
Posted 16th March 2007 at 12:37pm by Alex Buttle
Following pressure from customers, the media and particularly uSwitch, Toucan on Wednesday agreed to stop advertising ‘unlimited broadband’.
The term ‘unlimited broadband has caused quite a stir in the telecommunications world as it is very misleading. This is due to the fact that most companies who claim they provide unlimited broadband actually have a FUP ‘Fair Usage Policy’ that actually limits the amount downloads.
The introduction of IPTV ‘Internet Protocol television’ is going to cause greater downloads nationwide, and with 7 out of 10 customers not realising their unlimited service is actually limited, may cause immense problems.
Therefore after consumer and independent adjudicator pressure, Toucan will now stop advertising unlimited broadband, hopefully that will mean the likes of AOL, Be, BT, Orange, Pipex, Sky, Tiscali and Virgin Media will follow suit.
