As published on our news website on the 8th March 2007, Ofcom announced that almost 27,000 people had complained to Ofcom about their broadband service. However Ofcom have now come back and stated that it is almost double this original number, with 51,004 complaints between 1st January and 23rd October 2006.

This new statement was possibly due to pressure by PCAdvisor, who went back to Ofcom citing the Freedom of Information Act claiming that 27,000 seemed to be a very low a figure considering the amount of broadband users in the UK.

Ofcom have now come back with the new figure but were unable to state the worst offenders. Also Ofcom only said that the new figure of 51,004 complaints received included complaints, expressions of dissatisfaction and queries. Although the term ‘queries’ does not sound related to complaints, Ofcom have stated that they have included non-ISP specific complaints in this category.

In another area of customer dissatisfaction, over 1,500 people have signed the online petition regarding ISP’s incorrect advertising of unlimited broadband.
