Sky will eventually get round to marketing a mobile broadband service, according to one expert.

Julian Clover of Broadband TV News has highlighted the benefits of using mobile broadband, including the convenience and wider coverage of the service in some cases.

He has suggested that considering the inevitable rise of the portable internet technology, Sky will turn its hand to a package for broadband users on-the-go sooner or later.

Mr Clover commented: "For the past few months I've been using a USB stick, rather than fumbling for my credit card when I've turned up in a coffee shop, because the Wi-Fi provider is someone other than the four I've already registered to.

"My mobile broadband provider is the same as my mobile telephone operator, though it could just as easily have been BT or Virgin and I'll bet 3 Gbits that Sky will have launched such a service before the end of next year."

As early as last year Guy Kewney told the Register that Sky could be keen to branch out into the mobile market in order to offer quad-play packages.

I purchase TV programmes and broadband from Sky, and would like to have them provide me with mobile broadband pay as you use through the account i have already setup.

The reason I would like to pay as you use with Sky is due to the fact that I only have access in work for a very limited amount off time, and it is not worth it to me to pay a monthly contract as when I come home I haveaccess. Also most of my family and friends have Sky, I am connected wirelessly when I am in their homes - I wish they would hurry up as I think they are missing a marketing opportunity for their customers and themselves.

I can't believe sky haven't sorted it yet; it should be in with the existing package.
