Mobile broadband supplier Vodafone is considering a bid to take over its rival internet service provider (ISPs) T-Mobile UK.

According to the Financial Times, a potential buyout could be on the cards with Deutsche Telekom, the German owner of T-Mobile UK, said to be eager to sell the company.

However, it is unclear whether regulators would approve a Vodafone bid, as the merged company would control more than 40 per cent of the mobile market.

The newspaper estimates that T-Mobile has an approximate value of between £2.6 billion and £3.4 billion.

Despite the potential pitfalls of any move for the company, all of the UK's five major operators - including Orange, O2 and 3 - have complained about the fierce levels of competition.

"If the number of operators were reduced through deal-making, pricing pressure should be eased and margins boosted," the Financial Times predicted.

Last week, Vodafone was forced to apologise after it accidentally revealed the email addresses of hundreds of its mobile broadband customers.
