Internet service provider (ISP) Breathe Networks Group has confirmed that it was subject to a management buyout last week following a series of problems with its emails.

The broadband supplier has witnessed major disruptions this month to the email service offered by its ZetNet brand, which was forced to enter administration on July 16th, ispreview.co.uk reports.

Speaking to the website, Steve Kaye, Managing Director of Breathe Internet, admitted that the broadband supplier had suffered a "turbulent past".

"The expansion plans of the group were ambitious but that ambition over took what was practical, achievable and reflective of the current economy," he said.

"The absolute primary objective for us now is to take the business back to basics focus on what were good at, build upon a number of prominent brands in the UK internet industry but mostly repair what has caused our customers challenges in the past."

Mr Kaye also apologised to customers whose broadband connections had been disrupted while the new management "consolidated" Breathe's services.

In other news, meanwhile, ISP Eclipse has launched a campaign to lure business broadband customers from Pipex and Nildram with the promise of £50 cashback.

If you check the Companies House website you will see that Breathe Networks Limited is in danger of being struck off. I was a happy Zetnet customer until this lot got involved. Move, move, move is my advice

Further investigation reveals that Breathe Networks owns a number of domain registrars and ISPs. Nominet will be able to advise if yours in one of them. But be warned - it isn't just the banking sector which is unregulated.

Advice: use a local mail client and save your email locally. Don't trust Breathe or an associated company to manage it.

I agree, I am in process of moving to another ISP. I have been with Zetnet since the onset when it had its offices in Lerwick. sad, gone wrong badly, and forgot how to put the customer first. If you do manage to get on to the helpline, the sympathy and the embarassment is palpable. Still worried about my contractual position etc.

I am amazed that when I google for info about current problems with ecosse.net accounts - operated by breathe.net, that I can't find anything recent! Am I the only customer who has received no e-mails since before the end of July 2009? Perhaps I was the only customer! I've now moved elsewhere, but it's a shame because I really liked my e-mail address.
