Virgin Media reveals gaming broadband problem
Posted 2nd October 2009 at 3:38pm by Kimberley Howson
Gamers using Virgin Media's national ADSL broadband services to play online have suffered some problems recently, it has been revealed.
The company has received several complaints from those playing certain PC titles that they have been hit by issues linked to high latency in recent weeks, so work has begun to fix the problem.
It is thought the issue is linked to how the company prioritises traffic to ensure good service is available, as some games may not have been recognised correctly by its systems.
Mark Wilkin, help and support manager for the Virgin Media forum, wrote in a posting: "We're sorry that this has taken so long to get a handle on, but we're working hard on getting this fixed as soon as we can."
Earlier this week, the company's broadband service was affected by a series of outages, with customers struggling to access its website and others reporting connection problems.

Pay for a 10MB connection and have had more than 6MB for a long time, i think its time to start looking elsewhere. -
Disgruntle VM Gamer, 3rd October 2009.
Currently getting lower pings with ASDA £15 pay as you go wireless dongle than with VM. Its a joke. This has been going on for over a week now as for a couple of complaints about game performance

Some people at VM might want to go look at the Blizzard Entertainment WOW support boards there are more than just a few complaints there
here is a tip; roll back the traffic managment system to before your last rubbish patch then go away and TEST your new patches before putting them LIVE to your customer base. If not get ready for a flood of your GAMER customer base to start shouting MAC CODE.

Over a month now and no changes to my connection, terrible latency, it's not only effecting games either, ICMP requests, DNS issues, it's appalling.

They never have had good customer support since it switched from NTL, but now even the customer support are going so far as to call customers retarded and blaming our systems.
First chance I get, BT here I come. -

Gaming with Virgin Media is terrible. My service was just installed three days ago. Its the only reason i want the internet. I'm moving to Sky or BT.
