TalkTalk predicts the death of email
Posted 18th November 2009 at 2:38pm by Kimberley Howson
Internet users may stop using email within the next decade, according to broadband provider TalkTalk.
The company has conducted a study with the University of Kent on the future of internet habits and found that many young web users are turning away from the platform.
Around half of so-called "first lifers" who are tech-savvy youngsters in their early 20s who do not like being stuck at a desk claim to not use email anymore, as they prefer communicating through Twitter, Facebook and text messaging.
Mark Schmid of TalkTalk said the study highlighted how there are "now better ways" to communicate than by email.
He said: "Based on the trends we're seeing now, email could well be on its last legs by the end of the next decade."
Earlier this month, TalkTalk has announced the launch of its Pro package, which offers speeds of up to 24Mb and is thought to be around £200 cheaper than a similar package from rival BT.
