Flashing Christmas tree lights can cause intermittent broadband connection faults, according to one internet service provider.

PlusNet has urged customers to keep their lights and wiring away from telephone cables over the festive period.

The broadband provider claims they can generate RF interference, impacting upon ADSL internet service quality in particular.

"If you think you've got a broadband fault please remember to turn your lights off for a while and see if that cures the problem before calling," PlusNet's Peter Jackson stated.

Suggesting one possible solution, he added: "Some people have suggested that one way of detecting interference is to tune an analogue radio to Medium Wave 612 through to 693, which should buzz when you wave the radio near problematical tree lights."

PlusNet's Anthony Vollmer commented on Friday that the provider's network was again fully operational following a series of upgrades during the week.
