Broadband provider TalkTalk's campaign against the government's new anti-piracy legislation has received the support of Stephen Fry.

The broadcaster gave his backing to Don't Disconnect Us by selecting the song written by Liam Mullone as the winner of the company's Sing Our Petition competition.

Only Idiots Assume has been described by its writer as "a ska-punk reply to Peter Mandelson" over his plans to disconnect people suspected of illegally sharing files.

Discussing the issue, Fry said: "The government's proposed 'Three-Strike' Copyright Protection Law is ill-conceived, constitutionally outrageous, morally unfair and epically foolish.

"This is not the way to protect and strengthen the creative music, film and TV industries."

At the end of last month, TalkTalk held a briefing in Westminster to highlight how the digital economy bill led to the development of systems which allow people to continue to share films and music for free and undetected.

The broadband provider said the issue highlighted how the measures would not protect copyright.
