Mobile broadband users could soon have a tablet alternative to the Apple iPad, it has been reported.

UK firm X2 Computing has announced the launch of the iTablet, as it bids to enter the slate market.

X2 Computing Technical Director Robin Daunter said iTablets can be used "in a wider range of business and home environments" than Apple's iPad.

It is "extremely powerful" and has "a vast array of features and data storage capacity", he added.

Mr Daunter stated: "What is more, it uses the well-received Microsoft Windows 7 operating system, making it a more compelling proposition for users wishing to share data with their existing Windows-based systems and networks."

The new release may interest mobile broadband providers, who are understandably keen to enter the tablet market and latch on to an emerging consumer trend.

For internet service providers unable to offer the iPad as part of their portfolio, the iTablet could prove to be an attractive alternative.
