UK 'ahead of the US' on broadband development
Posted 23rd July 2010 at 2:43pm by Kimberley Howson
The quality of broadband offered to consumers in the UK is better than that available to people in the US, a new study has suggested.
Data published by market research firm Strategy Analytics revealed that the UK was ranked 22nd in terms of the quality of its web services, one place higher than the technology in use on the other side of the Atlantic.
The study rates broadband on five criteria, including household penetration, speed and affordability.
Ben Piper, Director of Strategy Analytics' Multiplay Market Dynamics service and author of the report, said: "The traditional single metric approach of looking at broadband is becoming less relevant.
"We feel confident that our multifactor index is a superior indicator of a country's relative broadband advancement."
The release of the research has come after the Internet Service Providers' Association published a new report featuring recommendations for the government to consider in relation to its broadband policies.
