There are plenty of augmented reality applications doing the rounds, but if you want something that appeals to your nostalgic side then the Lego app for the iPhone and iPod Touch is probably going to appeal to you.

It is a simple, easy to use app that essentially augments the iPhone's camera capabilities with a new filter which will render any subject in the colourful pallet and pixelated splendour of Lego bricks.

Lego's foray into the app market does not attempt to emulate the creative possibilities of construction afforded by real Lego play sets, but it does give you one more reason to make use of the iPhone's camera.

The Lego app is available to download free of charge from the app store, which means there really is no excuse for missing out. You could exercise a little bit of imagination and come up with something entertaining and fun with the resultant pictures, or you could simply spend your time turning your mates into blocky representations of themselves.

How is this 'Augmented' ?? So is Photoshop Augmented as I can filter images? It's an image filter app, theres loads of them in the app store so it's nothing new and certainly has nothing to do with the buzz word of 2010 'Augmented Reality'
