10 R-Type
R-Type is a classic side-scrolling shoot ‘em up from Japanese developer Irem released back in 1987 that quickly became a smash hit in arcades across the globe. Set in the 22nd century, the game puts you in control of a starfighter named ‘Arrowhead’ which you must use to defend humanity against the evil ‘Bydo Empire’. R-Type is considered to be a pioneer of the shooter genre from the 1980s and iPhone owners will soon be able to experience one of the best and toughest arcade classics on the go. The game is scheduled for release in Q1 this year.
9 Forgotten Memories
While little has been officially confirmed about Forgotten Memories, we do know that it is a survival-horror and a sequel to another iPhone title Dead Strike. And having seen a prototype of the game’s environments and we can safely say that it's not only a technical showcase for the iPhone but that it's so impressive that the level of atmosphere would do even Silent Hill proud. Watch the video to see for yourself why. If this is the tech demo, we are eager to see what the final game will be like when it comes out in spring.
8 GT Racing: Motor Academy
GT Racing: Motor Academy is a simulation racer from the developers that you brought you past hits such as Asphalt 5 and Let’s Golf, amongst a plethora of other fantastic games on the iPhone. While EA’s Need For Speed: Shift has already had a good stab at the genre, GT Racing: Motor Academy looks to take it up a notch. Realistic graphics and finely tuned controls, accompanied by a wide array of vehicles and a career mode make this the closest thing you’ll experience to Gran Turismo on the iPhone.
7 SSX
SSX (short for Snowboarding Supercross) is a skiing and snowboarding game that lets players perform a wide range of crazy stunts and tricks while racing down a mountain at high velocity. Despite the game’s arcade-y nature, it requires players to master the ability to maintain balance while demonstrating their overwhelming coolness without fatal consequences. The original SSX on the PS2 is still one of the best extreme sports titles we have played and we think a game of its nature will be a nice fit with the iPhone’s tilt capabilities. The game is scheduled for release sometime this year and we hope it will be out while it’s still chilly.
6 Riddim Ribbon
Riddim Ribbon is a brand new rhythm-based music game from the developers that brought you the hit music game from last year Tap Tap Revenge. This time you’re put in the role of a DJ. However, instead of tapping on on-screen prompts to match a rhythm, you must ‘race’ along it using the iPhone’s tilt functionality. The idea is to not veer off the track and keep going until you arrive at a ‘junction’. Here you have option of hopping onto one of two new tracks that will create a mix with your previous track. You can also flick your phone forward to add additional sounds to your mix. Best of all, when you’re done, you can share your mix with a friend. It’s a very cool concept and we are anxious for the game to be released soon.
5 World of Goo

World of Goo is a unique physics-based puzzle game where the player must construct a variety of structures from an icky black substance called goo to reach the exit. The idea is to manipulate balls of goo into bridges, towers and other structures necessary to overcome gravity as well as numerous obstacles in the terrain. The goo itself comes in several types, each with its own distinct properties that can be exploited in a different way to complete each level. The PC and Wii versions of the game received an almost indecent degree of acclaim, which is why we're thrilled that it's coming to the iPhone this year.
4 Plants vs. Zombies

Plants and Zombies may sound like the strangest of foes, but we might as well admit that if and when there is a zombie outbreak, it will be our green friends that stand in their paths. Plants vs. Zombies is an interesting twist on the tower defence genre that lets you experience that inevitability where you play the role of a homeowner trying to stave off a never-ending zombie invasion by strategically planting various defensive plants that wipe out wave after wave of zombies before they reach your house. Versions of the game on other platforms revealed the game to be one of the most addictive of its kind and we expect nothing less when it hits the iPhone very soon.
3 Rolando 3
Rolando and Rolando 2: Quest of the Golden Orchid are still two of iPhone’s most innovative games. In case you haven’t played Rolando before, it is a puzzle-based platformer where you have to control small, ball-like creatures known as Rolandos by tilting your iPhone sideways to help them to safety while avoiding all sorts of traps and troubles. The first two games had some excellently designed puzzles and we are hoping to see more of the same as well as new additions to take the series forward. Although the game has been given no confirmed release date, look for a release sometime in spring or summer.
2 Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

One of the most critically acclaimed titles on the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation Portable is now available on the iPhone. Experience the sandbox phenomenon from a top-down view that harks back to the original Grand Theft Auto. Chinatown Wars puts players in the streets of Liberty City to uncover an epic tale of crime and corruption within the Triad crime syndicate. The game is already available in the App Store for £5.99. If you’re looking for some quality mowing-down-unwary-pedestrians time on the iPhone, look no further.
1 Mirror’s Edge
When Mirror’s Edge came out for the current-generation of consoles and the PC, it was one of a kind: A ‘parkour’ inspired first-person action-adventure that allowed players to perform all manner of physics-defying manoeuvres to scale walls and anything else that stood in their path. While the iPhone version ditches the first-person view for a 2D side-scroller perspective, the developer has done an excellent job of reimagining the game while retaining the gameplay style of the original. And it looks fantastic, too. But don’t just take our word for it, watch the trailer. The game is scheduled for release later this month.

I think SSX would be very good on the iPhone. I'd buy it.

Nintendo must be starting to worry about the threat from iPhone now. Look at the difference in prices for GTA Chinatown wars....

Everyone knows that Hector: Badge of Carnage for the iPhone is the best thing to hit the iPhone since Steve Jobs announced the launch of that little rubber bumper thingy to fix the antenna.
