  4. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen is one of those artists who produces so many great rock songs that it would be possible to fill this entire list with entries by him, but I've settled for only one. 'Born to Run' is a song which makes you want to get up and rock, no matter how tired and road weary you may be – if this song comes on the radio, you wake up and pay attention. The combination of pounding guitars, saxophone and down-on-your-luck lyrics make for a thrilling ride.

    Radar Love - Golden Earring

This is THE song you are most likely to hear your dad singing along with in the car. With its chugging riff and driving themed lyrics (I've been driving all night, my hands wet on the wheel) this song is the perfect accompaniment to a long, late night drive through the desert, and as it's such a well known song, it's a great one to play if you want to get everyone singing, too.

  7. Big River - Johnny Cash

    Big River - Johnny Cash

Big River' isn't one of legendary country singer Johnny Cash's most popular hits but, it is one of the best to listen to whilst driving, especially if you are a country fan. The song was first released in 1958 on the legendary 'Sun' label and, tells the story of a man's travels along a river, chasing after the woman he loves.

This is a great song for a cross country trip and was much listened to, by me, on a recent trip across the USA.

    I can't drive '55 - Sammy Hagar

Sammy Hagar is probably best known for his stint as the singer for massive rock band 'Van Halen', when he took over from original singer, David Lee Roth. This track is, however, one of his solo songs and a great driving anthem to boot.

Sammy wrote this song after been stopped by police for driving at 62 miles per hour in a 60 zone. He allegedly told the cop ' I can't drive more than 55' and so this massive anthem was born.

  10. Fun Fun Fun - The Beach Boys

Fun Fun Fun - The Beach Boys

Fun Fun Fun' was a massive hit for The Beach Boys when it was released in 1964 and remains a favourite Summer driving song, today. It tells the story of a girl who borrows her daddy's Thunderbird car, telling him she needs to visit the library, only to drive off and have all manner of fun. The song perfectly sums up the thrill of driving as a teenager and for this reason, it makes the list.
