Top 10 Driving Songs

  1. Highway to Hell - AC/DC

    Highway to Hell - AC/DC

This is the driving song of choice for bad-asses everywhere and is one of the bands most iconic hits to date. With lyrics like: 'no stop signs/ no speed limit/ nobody's gonna slow me down' this song was made for the road. There's nothing quite as like driving down a deserted country road, blasting out this tune on high volume, to blow the cobwebs away.

  2. Bohemian Rhapsody

    Bohemian Rhapsody

This song was immortalised as a classic driving song when it appeared in one of the most memorable scenes of the hit comedy film 'Wayne's World'. Popular with young rockers, children and middle aged men everywhere, it is the perfect song to sing along to on a road trip and is sure to get all the passengers singing and head banging like Wayne and Garth.

    Slow ride - Foghat

If you're a fan of 'Guitar Hero' you will, no doubt, be familiar with this 1975 hit for rock band, 'Foghat'. This song provided them with their biggest hit and us with a great track to sing a long with on a long car journey. This is the kind of song which makes you roll down the windows, turn up the volume and cruise along the streets like a rockstar.

  4. Modest Mouse - Float On

    Modest Mouse - Float On

Only the first line of this Modest Mouse song has anything to do with cars or driving (“I backed my car into a cop car the other day”) but I love when “Float On” comes on when I’m taking a long drive. Modest Mouse is more often than not one of the dreariest, most pessimistic bands around, but this is a surprisingly optimistic song. We will all be all right. Good news is coming. Just keep on rolling.

  5. Bat Out Of Hell - Meatloaf

Bat Out Of Hell - Meatloaf

When the 'Bat Out OF Hell' album was released in 1971, it was an immediate hit. Featuring huge rock ballads, the likes of which had never been heard before, it went on to become one of the biggest selling albums of all time, shifting over 43 million copies.

The title track is probably the most well known hit from the album and makes a great driving song. In fact, it was recently voted the 'ideal driving song' by UK motorists and frequently appears on similar driving lists worldwide.

  6. Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf

Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf

I would think that this would appear in the top 10 of most people's list and, is the song which immediately springs to mind when the topic of driving songs is brought up. A favourite of bikers, rockers and just about every motorist in the land, this songs is best played loud, on a long road trip, to recharge the batteries and fire everyone up for the rest of the journey.

  7. Tangled Up In Blue: Bob Dylan

Tangled Up In Blue: Bob Dylan

Dylan’s disjunctive and impressionistic lyrics to “Tangled Up in Blue” seem to tell a story of some kind, but it’s hard to tell exactly what happens in the narrative. What does come across is the bittersweet emotion, which seems to carry some sorrow about the passage of time and lost relationships. Most of all, the song is a sort of transient epic, all about moving forward and not looking back, which makes it great to listen to at the start of a journey.

  8. Runnin' Down A Dream

    Runnin' Down A Dream

For that one-off trip down the west coast of the US, the pacific ocean to your right, artichoke farms to your left, and a slice of Americana permeating your ears from Mr Tom Petty.

  9. Those Darlins, Red Light Love

    Those Darlins, Red Light Love

This is an infectious song that I have a tendency to play more than once in a row. It’s a sweet, yet incredibly rocking and upbeat, song that is about the uncertainty and pure joy of a young romance, built around the story of a new couple taking a simple joyride around town. The entirety of Those Darlins’ self-titled debut album is great driving music, full of rocking classic country (like Carter Family country) covers and spirited originals, such as “The Whole Damn Thing” and “Wild One,” that have made this new band a huge favorite
