For me, Call of Duty 4 or “CoD4” as it is commonly abbreviated to, was the first game to offer the best playing experience online. The story and the graphics of the game play in mission mode is fantastic and truly enjoyable but the online competition of playing others around the world make it both groundbreaking and addictive. In terms of quality and hours of game play it has to be the greatest PS3 game to date.

Year after year EA sports releases and FIFA game and year after year they claim it’s the best one they have released. Most of the time this is true but on occasion it hasn’t been. With FIFA 10 though I really do think this is the best FIFA you can buy. Improved online game modes, customisable options of free-play physics that make the game even more realistic and challenging.

Rockstar, the makers of the heralded GTA games, recently released Red Dead Redemption and my first impressions were that the graphics are an incredible achievement as well as the sheer size of the game. IT is one of the biggest free-roaming games I’ve ever played and the story is very well written, which kept me engrossed for hours. My friends have had 40 hours and more out of the offline story mode making this a value-for-money game.

After the overwhelming success of CoD4, Modern Warfare 2 is probably one of the most anticipated games ever. It was bought in its millions and became one of the most profitable video games ever made. I think the story mode, like the original, is brilliant and in this the graphics are improved. The online mode is fantastic and does work better than CoD4 online, however, I think they might have tried to do a little too much with the sequel which is why I have put it 3 places below CoD4.

Fun pick up and play gameplay, stunning visuals and intuitive physics make Little Big Planet one of the most enjoyable and laid back gaming experiences I have had on my PS3. There are hours of playable online levels, hours of offline levels and millions of customisations you can make to ‘sackboy’ to personalise each and every detail of the game. For fun, chilled out gaming this is the best I’ve played on PS3.

Guns of the Patriots is the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid game for next generation consoles. It offers incredibly detailed, lifelike visuals, innovative and intuitive controls and a really gripping storyline. It is also one of the most challenging games on the PS3, which, when you’re paying £30 or so, is a desirable quality.

It has been a very long time since there was a Star Wars game released that comes close to being as good as Knights of the Old Republic. Thankfully, The Force Unleashed is perfect for Star Wars fanatics and casual gamers alike and for me has provided hours of fun and interesting gameplay.

I always found Assassins Creed very repetitive and after a while it got extremely boring. The creators have returned with the second installment of the Assassins Creed franchise and the improvements are vast. More in-game activities, better controls, even more stunning visuals and a much more gripping and engrossing storyline make Assassins Creed II a real contender for game of the year.

Grand Theft Auto IV was the first game that demonstrated to me the possibilities and power of the Playstation 3. The size of the map, the length of the story and the infinite missions and side-stories combined with brilliant graphics and detail made GTA IV a game that you couldn’t put down. Online, it wasn’t as satisfying as I had hoped but the brilliant mission mode made up for that.

Gran Turismo 5 hasn’t even been released yet but I am confident that this is without a doubt going to be one of the best Playstation 3 games of all time. The trailers and teaser videos released so far have shown the sheer amount of effort that has gone into creating this vast game. Hundreds of cars, plenty of tracks and an online 16 player mode will make GT5 not only the best designed racing game but the most playable and varied.
