Abu Dhabi is the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates and is also one of the world's most modern cities. A large proportion of the 1.5 million population are foreign workers. The city has wide boulevards, large green spaces and modern shopping malls and high rise buildings. There are a number of shopping malls selling luxury goods which are sold without tax. There are also plenty of other free attractions including the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Corniche, the city's waterfront which has some sandy beaches as well as many other activities. There are also several green open spaces, including the impressive Khalifa Park which has its own aquarium, play-parks, train and museum.
Abu Dhabi has many hotels including most of the major chains and most of the hotels have either a four or five star rating. Many of the hotels are in the Corniche area and also offer top class dining, leisure facilities and other things you would expect from high-end accommodation. There are also a number of unique hotels including one which is half on land and half in water, overlooking the marina and on Abu Dhabi's Formula 1 Grand Prix Circuit. The best time to visit for the cooler weather is November to March.
Flights into Abu Dhabi arrive at Abu Dhabi International Airport and taxis run from the airport into the city. It is also possible to fly into neighbouring Dubai and complete the journey by bus or taxi. The best way to get around is to hire a car or use a taxi. There is also a bus service but it is almost impossible to navigate the city on foot.
