What Services and Features Does Ting Internet Offer?

Ting Internet’s value proposition can be summed up in one word: speed. Ting only offers its 1000 Mbps high-speed gigabit fiber internet in a few locations, but rest assured it is the fastest or one of the fastest ISPs in those locations. Ting’s high-speed internet is generally best for houses or businesses. If you live in or are thinking of moving to an apartment, you can use the free “Ting Buildings” tool on the Ting website to see the speeds in your building.

Ting currently offers fiber internet in these locations:

California: Fullerton and Solana Beach (and soon to be added: Culver City and Encinitas)

Colorado: Centennial (and soon to be added: Roaring Fork)

Idaho: Greater Sandpoint

Maryland: Westminster

North Carolina: Fuquay-Varina, Holly Springs, and Wake Forest (and soon to be added: Rolesville)

Virginia: Charlottesville

Prices, Plans, and Value for Money

Ting offers a one-size-fits-all Home Gigabit plan with 1000 Mbps download speed, 1000 Mbps upload speed and unlimited data for $89/month. If you don’t need fiber internet, it also offers a 5 Mbps plan for $19/month. Fiber for Business offers the additional benefit of enterprise-level support at customized prices. There are no free trials.

None of the plans require a contract. However, you will need to pay a one-time installation fee of up to $200. If you don’t have a router, you’ll also need to buy a Ting internet box for $200 or rent it for $9/month.

Ting also offers an optional Wi-Fi range extender (Zyxel Multy Pro AC2100 Dual-Band WiFi Extender System) for $99 or $5/month. This enables additional Wi-Fi access points for larger homes, boosting your home network coverage by an additional 800-1,000 sq ft.

Overall, a Ting fiber internet subscription cost with the router and extender rental comes to $103/month.

Ease of Use, Hardware, and Setup

It generally takes about three weeks between the home visit and service activation.

The setup process consists of three steps:

1.    After you order Ting Internet, a Ting Team member will contact you within three business days to schedule a time for a technician to come and install your connection.

2.    The home visit can take between one hour to two-and-a-half hours. During the visit, the technician will set up the necessary equipment, mark out a pathway for the fiber optic cable on your property, and answer any questions you have.

3.    Following the home visit, Ting’s support team will be notified that your home has been fully connected and will activate your service.

The installation is slightly different if you live in Westminster, MD or Solana Beach, or Fullerton, CA. In these towns, the Ting fiber network is constructed and installed by a municipal or third-party organization. Therefore, Ting will arrange for a third-party technician to lay the fiber on your property and then contact you to book a final installation with a Ting technician.

Ting Internet Security

Ting doesn’t offer much information about its network security, except to say that it continually monitors its networks to address threats to the network and subscribers.

Ting Internet Performance

Ting promises 1000 Mbps download and upload speeds in all the locations where it operates. We checked the Federal Communications Commission’s broadband search tool and found that Ting is usually in the top three fastest ISPs in the areas it serves.

Ting Internet Customer Service

Ting Internet’s customer service gets mixed results. Some customers have reported quick response times while others have reported slow responses and, in some cases, hidden fees. Overall, it could be said that Ting’s customer service is better than the big ISPs, but its reputation lags behind some of the smaller ISPs.

There are several ways to get assistance:

  • Phone: 844-846-4994 (support) or 855-846-4626 (new signups), business hours only\
  • Live chat (Ting website during business hours)
  • Knowledgebase and forums (Ting website)
