Known to locals simply as KL, Kuala Lumpur is the capital of and largest city in Malaysia. From its origins as a Chinese tin-mining village, in the last 150 years KL has become an astonishingly colourful and cosmopolitan metropolis. KL features some of the world's cheapest five star hotels, with an emphasis on spas and pampering. The city centre's Golden Triangle area is a great hub for luxury accommodation, with easy access to KL's shopping districts, great restaurants and less than an hour's travel from the airport. The Sentral train station area boasts hotels for every budget and is convenient for travelling, while the Chinatown area will suit those looking for economy options.
You can access KL through its international airport, ranked as one of the best in the world and servicing more than 50 airlines. Transfer to the city centre is easy by train, bus or taxi. Getting around KL is best done via public transport due to traffic jams. Overland or monorail trains are cheap, while a free bus service is also available.
