Nice is the fifth most populated city in France and has a long and interesting history. The area is thought to be one of the oldest human settlements in Europe and over the years the town has spread out into distinct areas that reflect it's past. Old Town is particularly representative of the history of Nice with the feel of a medieval village complete with winding narrow streets and red tile buildings. From Castle Hill you can get your bearings and experience sweeping views of the city, the Med and the Alps and plot where you want to go next. The architecture here tells the story of the city and you will want to be sure that you visit the Palais Lascaris, the Cathedral Orthodoxe Russe St-Nicholas a Nice, the Place Rossetti and the Cathedrale Sainte-Reparate amongst many others.
Nice is set up for tourists and you will find a wide range of hotels and accommodations here to suit every desire. From luxurious five star properties to well known chains and boutique hotels you will be sure to find something to suit your budget and needs. Many of the higher end properties can be found in the centre of the city but you will also find a number of well known chains here as well.
Within Nice itself the public bus system, the Lignes d'Azur, connects most of the city while trains and trams take care of the rest. Nice also makes a great base for exploring the wider area and you will find a variety of transport links available including buses, trains and car rental that make the rest of France easily accessible.
