The buzzing beach city of Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and Australia´s most populous city, with a population of around 4.6 million. Located on the south east coast of Australia, it is a favourite city for the international surf community and has a famously lively nightlife and arts scene. A laidback crowd of locals and tourists gathers at legendary spots such as Bondi Beach and Manly Beach, while other, major tourist draws include the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Accommodation options in Sydney are nothing if not plentiful and the city´s lodging scene takes in everything from luxury major name hotels catering mainly to business travellers, to small but chic boutique hotels, mid-range chain hotels and cheap and cheerful backpacker lodgings. While there are plenty of good hotels located around Manly beach, many visitors choose to stay in the centre of the city, where they are within easy reach of both daytime tourist attractions and the city´s famously lively drinking and dining scene.
Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport is located a few kilometres from the centre of Sydney, at the famous Botany Bay. The busiest airport in Australia, the airport is served by airlines from all over the world. The airport is linked by train and bus shuttle services that take just a few minutes to whisk travellers to the city itself. There are abundant taxis available too, while those with plenty of energy and little by the way of luggage can walk to the city centre in less than an hour. Transport in the city is speedy and efficient, via rail, bus, ferry and even a monorail.
