Is Springboard Worth It?

Springboard is a valuable platform for anyone seeking to elevate their tech skills. What sets the program apart is its flexible schedule, mentorship program, and financing options. Springboard also has a very user-friendly website and quick application process. The only real downside I see is that there are no in-person classes, so you’ll need to be motivated to complete them on your own.

Overview

Springboard is a bootcamp that helps people start or accelerate their careers in tech. The program uses a combination of recorded lectures, mentorship, and hands-on projects to provide a personalized learning experience for all its students.

Springboard's courses cover different tech areas like AI, web development, and data science. It also has preparatory courses for those who are completely new to tech. They’ll give you the basic skills you’ll need to tackle the full-scale programs.

What is Springboard?

Springboard is an online learning platform that offers courses in the tech space. There are courses for a broad spectrum of learners, from beginners aiming to enter the tech world to experienced professionals seeking to upskill. Their self-paced nature makes them particularly appealing to those who may not be able to commit to full-time or in-person bootcamps.

Springboard's courses cover five fields: AI + data, design, software engineering, cybersecurity, and tech sales.

In addition to the course content, Springboard offers mentorship at all stages of the process. This includes guidance before, during, and after your course. This approach to learning ensures that you are not only well-versed in the subject matter but also equipped with the industry-specific knowledge and networking opportunities necessary to thrive in your chosen field.

Is Springboard Safe and Reliable?

Springboard is a reputable brand receiving 4.5 stars and above on multiple course review sites including Career Karma, Switchup, and Course Report.

Additionally, Springboard has a 4.3-star Trustpilot rating with multiple positive reviews. Customers state that they loved the course content and found the mentorship and career coaching very helpful.

Currently, Springboard isn’t BBB accredited and happens to have a low rating on the site due to a complaint from a student.

To establish trust, Springboard does a good job of highlighting the success of its alumni. On the Student Success page, you can find multiple students who have managed to secure positions in companies such as Google and Deloitte after completing their Springboard courses.

How Springboard Works

Springboard uses a self-paced structure for all its programs. The majority of the classes are pre-recorded lectures to give you the flexibility to go through the curriculum at your preferred speed.

During your study period, you’ll work with a mentor, career coach, and student advisor to help you stay on track and make the right choices toward your goals. Springboard makes it a point to pair you with experts who understand your goals and can match your learning schedule.

Another key element of Springboard’s programs is project-based learning, which incorporates tasks that emulate real-world scenarios. Not only does this give you practical skills but also helps you build a portfolio that you can use while job hunting.

How to apply to Springboard

Springboard promises a quick application procedure. I went through the process and it took me less than five minutes to complete. Plus, it was totally free.

To start, I clicked the "Apply Now" button after which I had to enter my email address. After that, I was asked to provide some personal details and the career track I was interested in. I also had to confirm I had the right to work in the US and Canada. Finally, I entered my education level and indicated if I was interested in scholarships.

After submitting, I received a 60-minute skill survey by email to assess how much I currently know. The survey has a deadline of 11:59 the next day and must be completed within three hours of starting.

Prerequisites

To enroll in Springboard's programs, you’ll need to fulfill certain prerequisites. While the specific requirements vary depending on the program you're interested in, here are some general guidelines:

  • Basic Computer Skills: Since Springboard's programs are tech-focused, having basic computer skills is essential. You should be comfortable using a computer, navigating the internet, and working with software.

  • Educational Background: Most programs don't require a specific degree, but some may recommend a certain level of education. For example, data science requires at least six months of active coding experience and basic knowledge of probability and descriptive statistics.

  • English Language Proficiency: Since the coursework involves reading and understanding complex technical material, a good command of the English language is important.

  • Technical Skills: Some programs have specific technical prerequisites. For instance, if you're interested in web development, having a basic understanding of HTML and CSS is helpful.

Cost

The cost of Springboard's courses differs from program to program. Below is what you can expect to pay for each course if you choose to pay all your fees upfront:

  • AI + Data: $8,500

  • Design: $11,900

  • Software Engineering: $9,900

  • Cybersecurity: $9,900

  • Tech Sales: $4,900

Disclaimer: The costs listed above may vary based on the program and payment plan you opt for. While we strive to provide accurate and up-to-date information, factors such as company policies, or unforeseen circumstances, may lead to changes in course fees and related expenses. It is advisable to check with the respective program providers for the most current information regarding costs before making any financial commitments.

Springboard accepts a range of payment options to suit your preferences and financial situation. If you can make a single payment upfront, Springboard offers up to 45% off your tuition.

But if you want some flexibility, the monthly payment option might be your best bet. These payments depend on the estimated course duration, which is typically six or nine months. If you're able to dedicate more time and finish the course sooner, you'll only be charged for the months during which you were actively enrolled.

For those who can’t make immediate payment, Springboard offers a deferred tuition plan. With a deposit as small as $200, you can begin your course without any payments until you secure a job. You'll make 18 monthly payments on the remaining tuition, with interest.

If you land a job and pay ahead of schedule, there's no penalty, and you'll pay less overall. Moreover, if you meet all job search requirements and milestones but don't secure a job within six months of graduation, your course will be entirely free.

Finally, you can apply for a financed tuition loan. This enables you to pay off your tuition in installments. Starting from $40, monthly payment amounts vary depending on the terms of your loan.

Springboard Student Resources

Springboard support is available through three channels; email, phone, and chat. You can give it a call on +1 415 592 5470, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm PST.

If you prefer email, you can send your query to hello@springboard.com, where you can expect a response within 24 to 48 hours. Finally, Springboard has a chat feature on the site. While this might look like you’re always talking to a person, it relies on an automated system outside business hours.

Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive an automated email from the Admissions Director to which you can respond with any additional questions you might have.

During your time at Springboard, you’ll have support from mentors who will guide you through the course while also providing you with insider tips on your chosen field. Springboard tries to choose the best mentors, ensuring they’re not only experts in their field but also suit your schedule, area of focus, and career goals. Each mentor must have at least three years of experience in their field and also have a high level of patience and empathy for their students.

After graduation, students who qualify for the job guarantee continue to receive support from a career coach for six months. In this time, Springboard Career Services will help you with job applications in addition to expanding your network to increase your likelihood of landing a job.

Springboard vs App Academy

While both Springboard and App Academy are reputable tech bootcamps, they differ significantly in two ways. First, Springboard is a strictly online program, while App Academy offers both in-person and online options. Second, Springboard offers bootcamps in five areas of study while App Academy only offers software engineering.

Springboard vs Kenzie Academy

Springboard and Kenzie Academy are similar in the courses they offer but are very different when it comes to tuition and financial aid. Kenzie Academy generally costs more than Springboard for most of its courses. Kenzie Academy also has fewer financing and scholarship options than Springboard does. Generally, the former ends to be a better fit for students who are able to invest both a substantial amount of time and financial resources upfront.

Springboard vs Flatiron School

Both institutions offer multiple courses in tech, but Springboard covers more areas of study, including a course on AI. Springboard is also more upfront about its pricing and financing options. On the other hand, Flatiron School has a more user-friendly website and offers courses as short as 15 weeks.

Bottom Line

Overall, Springboard is worth a shot for three reasons— its flexible learning schedule, range of payment plans, and easy application process. Additionally, the bootcamp covers five of the most popular areas in tech and accepts students at all proficiency levels.

On the downside, there are no options for students who need some external motivation to complete projects. I, personally, would love to meet my instructors and fellow students at least once a semester to establish some rapport.

These are, however, both small issues and I would be more than happy to launch my career in tech with Springboard.
