Let’s get one thing straight: Angie’s List is not actually a contractor. So, nobody from Angie’s List will be coming down to your home to fix your furnace or install your A/C units. Rather, Angie’s List is a comparison tool geared toward making it easier for homeowners to find contractors near them to provide the services they require at a more cost-effective price. Because you are able to compare different price quotes, you can usually find a better rate than if you just Googled local contractors for the job.
There are more than 10 million reviews for thousands of contractors on the site. So, there's definitely someone who can do the job you're looking for. Angie's List is a great option if you're looking for a good comparison tool to help you cost compare quotes from multiple contractors. It's not a good option if you're looking for a direct link to an individual contractor. Here's a partial list of the services available via Angie's List partner contractors:

Angie's List displays search results based on the quality of service provided and membership inclusion. So, a contractor can pay to appear higher up on the list, but they'll only stay there if they meet certain criteria, including maintaining an overall member rating of A or B, holding the proper licensing, and maintaining their verified profile page. The rankings include regular contractors, Certified Service providers, and Super Service Award contractors. Any business can earn the Super Service Award badge by adhering to the following points:
-
Maintaining an A rating in overall reviews
-
Maintaining an A rating in recent grade
-
Maintaining an A rating in review period grade
-
Staying in good business standing with Angie's List
-
Having a minimum of 3 reviews from members that implies the services were performed by the business
-
Passing the criminal background check
-
Having the proper licensing to perform the necessary services
All in all, we really like the way Angie’s List organizes its search results. The business profile pages are also incredibly detailed, giving homeowners a lot of information about each contractor they’re trying to compare.
Pricing
Angie’s List has a few plans to choose from. The basic free plan is called the Green Plan. Then, there’s a Silver Plan and a Gold Plan for people who want the full service available to them. Here’s a quick look at each of the plans:

If you're not interested in spending any money, though, there's also the Green Plan. This is a freemium option that gives you access to millions of reviews on the website, some member discounts, and basic customer service. It's annoying that the pricing isn't published on the site. You will have to speak to a representative directly to get that information for yourself.
Testimonials
“Before Angie's List, selecting a service provider was like throwing darts blind folded. Those who report on Angie's List have helped me make informed, logical, educated decisions. I am truly grateful.” - Nancy, St. Paul
“When I had a problem with a service provider, Angie stuck up for me, and I got action immediately. I wish I would have called earlier!” - Robert, Columbus
“Joe was absolutely wonderful. Our neighbor recommended him to us, and we are incredibly thankful for that. Joe did our entire HVAC system and water on demand. We really wanted to do everything we could to maximize space, and Joe made sure the project was done to perfection. The job site was kept clean and orderly. Every time I called Joe, he was quick to answer and always came through I highly recommend him!” Jessica W
Customer Service and Response Time
Since Angie’s List isn’t the one providing you with HVAC services, there’s no real need to have 24/7 customer service. Still, it would be nice if there was slightly more availability. Angie’s List has email support via the online submission form on the site for Green Plan members. Silver Members get more advanced email support, and Gold Plan members get exclusive phone support. It would be nice if there was phone support for everyone. You can get in touch with customer support via live chat when it’s available, too.
The speed and quality of the support you get depend on the contractor you work with, so choose a good one. Of course, there are 10+ million verified reviews from real users. That should count for something, right?
We like that Angie's List performs background checks on all the participating contractors, but it's not as thorough as you would expect. For one thing, not all contractors are included in the background checks. Only Certified Service Providers and Super Service Award providers get background check certification. This is a reliable way for homeowners to weed out the businesses that might not be worth looking into. Angie's List performs background checks every 2 years.
One other feature we liked was the Penalty Box. This is a notification about specific businesses that have failed to meet the quality standard of Angie’s List network members. A contractor might land in the Penalty Box if they fail to respond to a complaint resolution process initiated by Angie’s List or if they agree to resolve an issue with a member but then never do so. While in the Penalty Box, a contractor will not show up within the search results or the category listings. You can find them by looking specifically for their name. But this is a great feature that helps maintain a level of professionalism and quality of service that consumers deserve.

Warranty
Angie’s List offers a $100,000 service guarantee on work done by partner contractors. This isn’t as much as the sister site, HomeAdvisor. But it’s a lot more than many other comparison sites offer. It’s important to read through the terms and conditions, though, as not all situations and projects are covered under the guarantee.
Summary
Angie’s List is a sister site to the popular HomeAdvisor comparison giant. It is offering homeowners a more convenient way to compare different contractors and the services they offer. It’s important for homeowners to note that this is not a direct contractor, and you won’t get any HVAC services from Angie’s List. You will, however, get a solid comparison tool with lots of real user reviews, industry information, and quality background checks for every business that participates.
