Our Verdict

Is Calm Worth It?

After using Calm regularly, I can say it's one of the most intuitive and accessible wellness platforms available. It doesn’t offer clinical therapy, but it’s fantastic for managing stress, sleep issues, and building healthier mental habits. With a wide variety of guided meditations, breathing exercises, music, and sleep stories, Calm has something for anyone looking to reduce anxiety or improve daily mindfulness.

It’s not a substitute for therapy with a licensed counselor, but as a self-help tool, it delivers a polished, premium experience. If you're looking for science-backed, expert-informed content to help you feel calmer, sleep better, or regain focus, Calm is a solid investment—especially if you’re not ready for, or don’t need, 1-on-1 therapy.

Honestly the reviews are ridiculous
Honestly the reviews are ridiculous. They are blaming the app for their mistake of not canceling, also meditation takes time to get the gist of it. I've been using it for a year in find it extremely helpful.... I'd say I'm surprised at people but humanity never fails to blame others for their mistakes.... take it from me, if you want calmness pay the money. Your worth the investment. Is it going make everything better- probably not but like most books, it will make your life 10% better like dan Harris said ... if you don't like tamara voice, there are other teachers, secondly is it right to write a review being extremely rude and critical about someone that is just trying to help... if you been recommended mindfulness for your healing. There is plenty of other apps... no one is telling you to listen to tamara although I have always loved her voice. Very calming and sincere. Why would someone do a job for caring about people if she didn't have good intentions 😕 😒 please be self aware of what your doing to yourself and others becuase this app has actually changed my life for the better.

Just checked my subscription. It has expired. I need to renew it and wanted to check if it's worth it because it's 23 pounds ATM (1 day offer) and if I could afford it. Really shocked at the reviews as I've been using the app and it's beautifully and it has so much for free already. I literally thought I was subscribed. Please, be decent people 🙏 and a bit more fair. Thank you for makimg this app team Calm! I can't thank u enough ❤️ I'm sure my family would be thanking u too if they knew I am writing this review.

Refunded me quickly
I recently signed up to the free 7 day trial. Whilst I did enjoy listening to the sleep stories and found them very effective, I also subscribe to audible and can get something similar. I decided to cancel, but was a day late and was charged £39.99. They had emailed me to warn me that the free trial was about to end, but I hadn't seen it. I immediately emailed the customer services team and received a refund the next day. I have to admit I wasn't expecting the refund after reading the negative reviews, but in my experience I couldn't fault them!

Calm at a Glance

What Is Calm?

Calm is a mindfulness and meditation app designed to support emotional wellness through non-clinical means. It helps you manage stress, sleep better, stay focused, and build healthy mental habits—all through expertly curated content like guided meditations, calming music, masterclasses, and bedtime stories.

The app is suited for anyone looking to improve their daily mental health routine, whether you're new to meditation or have experience with mindfulness. Calm offers standalone content rather than matching you with a therapist, so it's best for users seeking relaxation and self-guided mental wellness support.

Who Is Calm For?

Calm is perfect for adults looking to improve mental wellbeing without clinical therapy. It's ideal for people who:

  • Experience sleep issues or anxiety
  • Want guided meditation and breathing tools
  • Need quick, calming routines throughout the day
  • Prefer non-clinical wellness tools to manage stress

Calm Features

  • Daily Calm: 10-minute meditations updated every day
  • Sleep Stories: Narrated stories to help lull you to sleep, featuring voices like Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba
  • Music Library: Tracks curated for sleep, focus, or relaxation
  • Calm Body: Short movement sessions combining stretching and mindfulness
  • Calm Masterclass: Wellness-focused classes taught by mindfulness experts

Is Calm Safe and Reliable?

Calm is not a therapy provider but it’s trustworthy as a wellness tool. It follows strict privacy standards (including compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act and GDPR), and it clearly discloses how your data is used. All content is curated with help from psychologists, therapists, and meditation teachers. Calm does not offer clinical therapy and is not HIPAA-regulated, but it maintains strong internal standards for content safety.

How Calm Works

Calm provides self-guided tools through audio, video, and text formats. Once you set up the app, you can choose a goal (like sleeping better or managing stress), and Calm recommends tailored programs. The more you use it, the more the app adapts to your preferences. There’s no need to make appointments—everything is on-demand, which is ideal for those with unpredictable schedules.

How to Get Started With Calm

Getting started only takes a few minutes:

  • Download the App (iOS/Android) or go to calm.com
  • Create an Account (via email, Apple, Facebook, or Google)

  • Start Using Your Dashboard – Access meditations, music, and more

The onboarding flow is straightforward and visually calming—fitting the brand's identity perfectly.

Calm Customer Service

Calm doesn’t offer live chat or phone support. Instead, it uses a detailed Help Center and email-based ticketing system at support@calm.com. Response times are usually within 48 hours. The platform also features extensive blogs, guided resources, and FAQs that help you get more from your subscription.

How Do You Switch Therapists?

This isn’t applicable for Calm, as it doesn’t match you with licensed therapists or offer direct clinical services.

How to Cancel or Pause a Calm Subscription

You can cancel your Calm Premium subscription easily through the platform where you signed up (App Store, Google Play, or Calm’s website). There are no hidden fees or hoops to jump through—your account remains active until the end of your billing cycle. Subscriptions can also be paused in some app versions.

Just a few tiny changes…
Well I usually love most of this app and it has a lot of glorious and wonderful and beautiful and magical things in it, but the writers just…well, sometimes they just don’t use proper grammar. They sometimes can’t make a subject agree with a verb. I know I’m getting picky here, but one glaring bad grammar mistake just ruins the rest of a beautiful story for me. For example: “They ascend up the mountain.” You don’t need “up” in that sentence, it’s redundant. “They ascend the mountain” will do. Stephen Fry, who I love and adore, even read a couple of mistakes in the lavender story “Blue Gold” by Phoebe Smith, and I’m amazed he didn’t catch them. “But for many, simply strolling the fields can in themselves offer a kind of spiritual as well as physical journey” should read “But for many, simply strolling the fields can in itself offer a kind of spiritual as well as physical journey.” (“Strolling” is the subject there, and not “fields.”) One more: “a whole network of vibrant fields open out before you” should be “a whole network of vibrant fields opens out before you,” as the subject is “network” here, and not “fields.” Phoebe Smith’s otherwise perfectly beautiful story is marred by these slight grammatical oversights…and Stephen’s magical voice traps them on the recording forever…his musical intonations and Phoebe’s general use of language are otherwise beautiful and impeccable, with depth and expression that are absolutely unmatched. If I didn’t love this story so much I wouldn’t say anything…we all have room to improve, and certainly I myself could use vast improvements in just about everything…but when you love and listen to these stories as much as I do, (and they are really helpful to me besides), you want them to be as perfect as possible. I’m sure everyone at Calm wants that, too. The worst example of grammar on the Calm app is Tamara Levitt’s frequent use of “as best as you can.” It’s either “as best you can” or “as well as you can” but NEVER “as best as you can.” Now all that to say, I love the amazing work Tamara brings to the table and her wonderful vast knowledge of many spiritual and useful subjects. I love her writing, and her magnificent spiritual presence on the recordings. She is a wonderful person. But for her to be using that phrase wrong just makes her sound like she wasn’t paying attention in class that day. Tamara! I love you! Please don’t say “as best as you can”! I want you to sound 100 percent like the star that you are! Oh, and by the way, never use “equally as.” It’s redundant also. Use equally or as but not both and never right next to each other. “Equally good” or “as good” and you’ve done enough; never use both. I could go on. I know I’m frightfully picky, but I LOVE this app and I love the sleep stories SO much, and I want them to shine in their magnificence like finely cut diamonds or Fabergé eggs. The occasional (and again, these are rare but they do happen and I notice them) glaring error could be resolved by a good proofreader. A second pair of eyes on your written work after the final draft is done is invaluable. (Note: a pair IS invaluable; that demonstrates the subject agreeing with the verb, right there. The verb does not need to agree with “eyes” in “of eyes” because “eyes” is not the subject.) All that to say…I’m still giving this app five stars because I love it so much. Best seventy dollars a year I ever spent. I love Eric Braa’s voice too (the Halloween story is one of my favorites) and also I love the voices of Nimmy March, Alan Sklar, Eduardo Ballerini, and Emiko Susilo, just to name a few and along with so many others. I think I’ve listened to the Moss Temple story about a trillion times; it never gets old. I love the Calm app. Maybe I just expect a little more from all of you because you are such shining lights, each and every one of you. Hence my complaints about the grammar. Keep doing the wonderful work and thanks to all, and a special thank-you to Jeff Warren for bringing me to meditation. Again, many thanks to you all for bringing more peace into the world.
